Training Lab 1 – Check Point Appliance Sizing Tool:
Check Point has a broad range of security solutions. In order to help partners know which product best fits
their customer’s needs, we developed an innovative tool to help you define security needs and easily choose
the best package for your customer.
The Appliance Sizing Tool enables partners to select the right appliance for their customer based on its
specific environment and security needs. Check Point’s unique benchmark measurement for appliance
performance is called Security Power Units (SPU). Each appliance has a unique SPU value which measures
the capability and capacity of the appliance to perform multiple advanced security functions. SecurityPower
provides an effective metric in evaluating an appliance. It is an analysis of behavior and prediction of future
behavior under security attacks and in day-to-day operation. As opposed to the traditional firewall throughput
measurement, SecurityPower is measured using real world customer traffic blend, with multiple advanced
security functions (such as Intrusion Prevention (IPS), Application Control, Antivirus, DLP) and a security
policy which is typically found at customer deployments. In the Appliance Sizing Tool you can define your
customer’s real environment based on the internet connection, total throughput, number of users, Software
Blades they will use, etc. to get Check Point’s recommendation for the right size of appliance. Check Point
recommendsselecting an appliance with up to 50% capacity utilization to allow organizations room for growth
in the future.
